Overcoming Christian Writer’s Block

Pastors and evangelists who write for Christian ministry are always looking for innovative ways to portray the beauty of God’s love for humanity. However, difficulty articulating important concepts and deciding what topics to write about can happen to the most experienced theologians. The good news is Christian writers can use a variety of creative solutions, including Bible study archives maintained by the church, for fresh ideas and interesting subject matter. When referenced properly, these theological resources can generate unique and engaging written content for the purposes of evangelistic ministry.

Christian writers should begin every work session with prayer; intentionally inviting the Holy Spirit into every aspect of their lives and especially in the work of the Lord. Any work within the context of ministry is sacred and writers certainly need to be guided by the Holy Spirit to be successful in evangelism.

Church archives can be especially valuable in stimulating fresh ideas and renewed topics for sermons, articles and Bible studies. This is an inexhaustible way to produce Christian web content writing as well. One of my favorite resources include the Sabbath School lesson archives at the official website of the Seventh-day Adventist church. Christian ministry leaders can find a virtual treasure trove of Sabbath School quarterlies dating back to the year 2003. Each page has innovative and engaging subject matter that is also referenced by correlating Scriptures. In consideration of hundreds of pages in each quarterly and four quarters to a year, there is unlimited potential for fresh ideas upon which articles and sermons can be based and the gospel subsequently preached.

Christian writers should also consider contributing to Ministry Magazine, an international journal for pastors. Published by the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, this resource is frequently perused by a diverse range of clergy, ministers in training and evangelistic laypersons.

Potential contributors should carefully regard the written guidelines for writer’s submissions and have a strong understanding of SDA Biblical adherence, including the seventh-day Sabbath. Christian leadership, pastors and writers will find this resource useful for ministry management and referencing Biblical substantiation for doctrinal support.

Ministry in Motion is a video-based ministry that features segments on what has proven effective in Church ministry. These conversational dialogues can be instructional and include ways to maintain membership and encourage Church growth. Featured segments on topics such as “How to Prepare Powerful Biblical Sermons” are especially helpful for those in pastoral ministry and can also be enlightening for writers and publishers in their work.

Church ministry archives can help content writers successfully overcome writer’s block and these resources should also be regarded as potentials for creative submission.

Jesus promised believers that “he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do,” (John 14:12) While we can never do greater works than our God and Savior Jesus Christ, we do have the potential to reach greater numbers of people by following the guidance of the Holy Spirit and using the technological advancements available today.

As the world eagerly awaits the second coming of Jesus Christ; writers, web developers and ministry leaders should certainly consider their work to be an important aspect to fulfilling the great commission of Jesus Christ. Technological innovations provide viable venues of evangelistic outreach, enabling believers to preach the word of God more efficiently and subsequently fulfill their respective ministries. (2 Timothy 4:5)

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14)
